Catalysis is the starting source for many chemicals and intermediates and it is known that 80% of chemical processes involve at least one catalytic step. Partial or total oxidation catalysis represents 31% of actual catalytic processes with 18% being heterogeneous and 18% being homogeneous. A review of recent heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis developments has been reported in “Comptes Rendus de l’Académie des Sciences de Paris” and in a special issue of “L’Actualité Chimique”. French participation in the field was continuous and important in the past 50 years in industry and in academia. We are presenting below the main French contributions in partial oxidation heterogeneous catalysis since 1960.
